Duties of the
Officers (from the Bylaws, 8-07)
The duties of the President shall be as
follows:
- Preside over all business meetings or appoint a
substitute.
- Appoint and establish any necessary committees.
- Appoint representatives to campus organizations
or committees as needed.
- Vote only in case of a tie.
- Act as liaison for Phi Theta Kappa to other
campus organizations.
- Coordinate with advisors.
- Serve as ex-officio member on any committees
he/she deems necessary.
The duties to be shared by the Vice-Presidents
shall be as follows:
- Perform all the duties of the President in the
event of his/her absence upon request by the
President; in the order of Leadership, Service,
Scholarship, and Fellowship.
- Temporarily perform the duties of the President
in case of inability to continue as President.
The duties of the Vice-President of Service
shall be as follows:
- Coordinate all chapter service projects.
- Incorporate activities relating to the current
International Service Project.
- Coordinate with the Vice-President for Publicity
regarding chapter events.
The duties of the Vice-President of Fellowship
shall be as follows:
- Coordinate fellowship events for the chapter.
- Coordinate fellowship events with Phi Theta
Kappa ‘buddy chapters.’
- Coordinate with the Vice-President for Publicity
regarding chapter events.
The duties of the Vice-President of Leadership
shall be as follows:
- Coordinate leadership activities for the
chapter, such as: Welcome Week, Induction’s, and
officer elections.
- Leadership Development Program.
- Activities with student body.
- Coordinate with the Vice-President for Publicity
regarding chapter events.
The duties of the Vice-President of Scholarship
shall be as follows:
- Keep a current file of scholarships available
for Phi Theta Kappa students at local colleges.
- Coordinate scholarly events pertaining to the
Honors Study Topic.
- Coordinate with the Honors Study Chair.
- Coordinate with the Vice-President for Publicity
regarding chapter events.
The duties of the Vice-President of Publicity
shall be as follows:
- Collaborate with advisors to get items regarding
chapter activities published in the appropriate
media.
- Coordinate publication of the chapter
newsletter.
- Make flyers for chapter
functions/events/meetings/and coordinate their
distribution.
- Coordinate with all other officers on publicity
of chapter events.
The responsibilities of the Historian are as
follows:
- To organize the yearbook for the regional
convention.
- To take pictures or have pictures taken at
chapter functions
- Keep record of the chapter’s activities.
The responsibilities of the Honor’s Chair as
follows:
- To plan activities for the chapter relating to
the current International Honors Topic.
- To coordinate with the Vice-President of
Publicity regarding these activities.
The Secretary shall:
- Take minutes of all meetings.
- Type the minutes and coordinate with an advisor
in a timely manner.
- Present the minutes of previous meetings.
The Treasurer shall:
- Attend all business meetings.
- Monitor the chapter budget and maintain records
of all chapter spending,…in coordination with
chapter advisor.
- Keep the President abreast to any financial
concerns.
- Help write the budget for the following year and
submit it to the Student Life President.
