Duties of the Officers (from the Bylaws, 8-07)

The duties of the President shall be as follows: 

  1. Preside over all business meetings or appoint a substitute.
  2. Appoint and establish any necessary committees.
  3. Appoint representatives to campus organizations or committees as needed.
  4. Vote only in case of a tie.
  5. Act as liaison for Phi Theta Kappa to other campus organizations.
  6. Coordinate with advisors.
  7. Serve as ex-officio member on any committees he/she deems necessary.

 

The duties to be shared by the Vice-Presidents shall be as follows:

  1. Perform all the duties of the President in the event of his/her absence upon request by the President; in the order of Leadership, Service, Scholarship, and Fellowship.
  2. Temporarily perform the duties of the President in case of inability to continue as President.

The duties of the Vice-President of Service shall be as follows:

  1. Coordinate all chapter service projects.
  2. Incorporate activities relating to the current International Service Project.
  3. Coordinate with the Vice-President for Publicity regarding chapter events.

 

The duties of the Vice-President of Fellowship shall be as follows:

  1. Coordinate fellowship events for the chapter.
  2. Coordinate fellowship events with Phi Theta Kappa ‘buddy chapters.’
  3. Coordinate with the Vice-President for Publicity regarding chapter events.

 

The duties of the Vice-President of Leadership shall be as follows:

  1. Coordinate leadership activities for the chapter, such as: Welcome Week, Induction’s, and officer elections.
  2. Leadership Development Program.
  3. Activities with student body.
  4. Coordinate with the Vice-President for Publicity regarding chapter events.

 

The duties of the Vice-President of Scholarship shall be as follows:

  1. Keep a current file of scholarships available for Phi Theta Kappa students at local colleges.
  2. Coordinate scholarly events pertaining to the Honors Study Topic.
  3. Coordinate with the Honors Study Chair.
  4. Coordinate with the Vice-President for Publicity regarding chapter events.

 

The duties of the Vice-President of Publicity shall be as follows:

  1. Collaborate with advisors to get items regarding chapter activities published in the appropriate media.
  2. Coordinate publication of the chapter newsletter.
  3. Make flyers for chapter functions/events/meetings/and coordinate their distribution.
  4. Coordinate with all other officers on publicity of chapter events.

 

The responsibilities of the Historian are as follows:

  1. To organize the yearbook for the regional convention.
  2. To take pictures or have pictures taken at chapter functions
  3. Keep record of the chapter’s activities.

 

The responsibilities of the Honor’s Chair as follows:

  1. To plan activities for the chapter relating to the current International Honors Topic.
  2. To coordinate with the Vice-President of Publicity regarding these activities.

 

The Secretary shall:

  1. Take minutes of all meetings.
  2. Type the minutes and coordinate with an advisor in a timely manner. 
  3. Present the minutes of previous meetings.

 

The Treasurer shall:

  1. Attend all business meetings.
  2. Monitor the chapter budget and maintain records of all chapter spending,…in coordination with chapter advisor.
  3. Keep the President abreast to any financial concerns.
  4. Help write the budget for the following year and submit it to the Student Life President.
