Hi everyone,
Our meeting time for weekly PTK meetings is changing. Starting this week,
on Monday, we will meet on MONDAYS (instead of Weds.) at the usual
time-2:20-3:30. So, please look for us Monday in CC 116b. You are welcome
to come and go as you need to, staying for 5 or 50 minutes, as you can.
Everyone in PTK is welcome!
INDUCTION CEREMONY MON., NOV. 3, 5 PM: If you have not yet been inducted
into PTK, your official Induction Ceremony is Monday, November 3, 5-6:15 pm
in HH 203. College President Dr. Cheryl Frank, who also has been
instrumental in helping Phi Theta Kappa in our four-state region, will speak
briefly, as will Provost and Vice President Joan Costello, and your
membership oath will be taken by the Chapter Presidents. The dress is
semi-formal (professional work clothing or nice school clothing). Add this
to your calendar and invite as many friends and family members as you like!
There will be a dessert reception afterward. Please go to
http://student.inverhills.edu/ptk/News/InductionFall2008.htm
to sign up for
the Ceremony. (If you tried the registration link before and it didn't
work, try this new one.) If you haven't yet been inducted, we'll look
forward to seeing you at Induction.
VOLUNTEER NEEDS: No experience is necessary! We provide all necessary
equipment except as noted below; for tabling, you just need to hand out
brochures, flyers, and candy. If you can help with the events above (the
ones without a different email address), please let Co-President Khang Tran
know at ktran.1588@yahoo.com or Co-President Jamie Lehman at
lehm0015@metnet.edu to give them your name and hours you can help.
Currently we have the following volunteer needs:
Oct. 23 (Th.), 4:30-7 pm: PTK table at IHCC Open House - Email
ktran.1588@yahoo.com or lehm0015@metnet.edu to help.
Fall Yard Cleanup and/or Winter Snow Removal: DARTS, a non-profit
organization providing seniors in Dakota County with help at home to remain
independent as long as possible. Contact mary.richardson@darts1.org
PTK Bi-Monthly IHCC Campus Cleanup: Email ktran.1588@yahoo.com
or lehm0015@metnet.edu for times, places, & dates.
Volunteer projects like this can go on resumes and also count toward the
special annual PTK 24-hr. service award. If you have 24 hrs. of service in
PTK events, you will receive a 24-hr. PTK Volunteer Service Award at a
special all-campus ceremony and be able to place this special service award
on your resume. It's a great goal to set for yourself!
NEW SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY: Do you have a 3.5 GPA or better and will you
have 36 college credits by the end of fall semester plus some experience
with service and/or leadership? If so, you may qualify for the All-USA
TODAY Academic Team Scholarship. The College is looking for two students
with excellent academic and leadership records. Each receives a $500
scholarship, may win an additional $1000, and has a chance for thousands
more in state and national scholarship competitions. The two IHCC winners
also receive their awards at a formal gala state luncheon with College
President Cheryl Frank and winners from all the two-year state colleges.
Winners also may note this distinguished award on their resumes. See
www.ptk.org/schol/aaat/announce.htm for info. You cannot download the
application from the web, so please pick up an application-and full
info-from Judy Gouin in LA 214. Her email address is jgouin@inverhills.edu.
If you have a friend who might qualify, he/she does NOT have to be a member
of PTK to win the scholarship. Few apply, so you have a high chance of
winning if you apply and meet the requirements. Application materials and
two letters of recommendation must be in to Judy Gouin by Nov. 10, so start
now!
